Before he started school, Steve was “marking”, out pictures on paper bags, walls, newspapers and any scrap paper that was available. His parents, Ruby and Roy encouraged their 5 children to develop each of their unique talents and gifts from an early age. Steve received his first paint set, a watercolor set from his Na’nan when he was 12 years old.

He did his first oil in 1980 and was hooked, Steve continued to paint for the next few years before taking a break of several years, although continuing to draw. He picked it up again in the spring of ’98 and did several pieces per year. After a meeting with renowned Amite, La. artist R.C. Davis in 2005 Steve found a deeper passion for his art. He was recently featured in his first 1-man show at Clementine’s restaurant and now paints every week.

His work can be seen in several shops & galleries along Main St. in New Iberia, including, The Shadows on the Teche Visitors’ Center, Karen’s Fine Framing and the Jungle Gardens gift shop on Avery Island. Steve is also represented in Baton Rouge at the LSU Museum of Art in the Shaw Center, the Old Tyme Emporium, the Foyer and at Brian’s Furniture in Port Allen, La.

Steve also carves and paints on old cypress driftwood and does pen & ink drawings.Daily Iberian
